Blocks

The One World Quilt consists of six separate blocks and a border. All the blocks have some background elements, such as land and trees with the appliqué pieces fused to the background fabric.

Block 1 - Koala and Kangaroo

Block 1 - Koala and Kangaroo

When looking at the One World quilt, Block 1 is in the top left hand corner. It includes a Koala and Kangaroo.

Block 2 - Moose and Beaver

Block 2 - Moose and Beaver

When looking at the One World quilt, Block 2 is in the top centre on the left side. I have to admit that this block is one of my favourites because it includes a Moose and a Beaver.

Block 3 - Monkey and Elephant

Block 3 - Monkey and Elephant

When looking at the One World quilt, Block 3 is in the top centre on the right side. It includes a Monkey and an Elephant. I don’t know about you, but that monkey looks mischievous. I am not sure the elephant knows what he is in for.

Block 4 - Toucan and Giraffe

Block 4 - Toucan and Giraffe

This is the final block for the upper part of the quilt. When looking at the One World quilt, Block 4 is in the top on the right side. It includes a Toucan and a Giraffe.

Block 5 - Whale and Fish

Block 5 - Whale and Fish

This is the first horizontal block and it includes a whale. This is important because not only is the whale really cool, it also has a tale that can’t stay in its own block. That means you are going to have to leave part of the tail free until you put all the blocks together in the final quilt.

Block 6 - Polar Bear and Penguins

Block 6 - Polar Bear and Penguins

This is the second horizontal block and this time you need to look out for the polar bear. Not because the bear is dangerous but because you really don’t want to upset the bear by not attaching his claws properly. Polar bears are not noted for their even temper. Before you tell me that polar bears don't live in the same area as penguins, be aware that the polar bear is on vacation and visiting the penguins at the South Pole.

Border - Alligator

Border - Alligator

The border and sashing are fairly straightforward however you are going to have to watch out for the Alligator. He is another animal that is unable to stay within the area assigned to him. His tail actually hangs off the bottom of the quilt or you can do what I did and move him up so that he is completely within the quilt top.
