Welcome to the Potion Quilt Along

Join Kim Jamieson-Hirst from Chatterbox Quilts and Devon Lavigne for the online Potion Quilt Along. We will be making Potion, one of Devon's designs from her recently released book, Quilt Traditions. Potion is a pieced quilt measuring 69 inches by 81 inches.

Potion is perfect for the confident beginner/intermediate quilter. By enrolling in the Potion Quilt Along you will learn how to create half-square triangles, make the Potion block using partial seams, and be motivated by other quilters to finish your version of Potion by the end of the quilt along.

This is an online quilt along, so you can join us from anywhere in the world. Once you register in the Potion Quilt Along, you will always have access to the pattern, all of the videos, and the reference materials. You can choose to download the information and videos to your own computer or simply stream the videos. We do suggest that you download the Potion pattern once you receive it so you'll be all set to start creating this amazing design.

The quilt along will have four parts, each with its own instructional videos and downloadable reference documents, to guide you through making the quilt. A new part will be released every two weeks.

  • Part 1 - Getting Started
  • Part 2 - Making the Block
  • Part 3 - Constructing the Rows
  • Part 4 - Borders & Quilting Ideas

Devon Lavigne

Devon Lavigne is the author of Quilt Traditions, published by C & T Publishing, and the co-author of Fresh from the Prairies. Devon loves designing traditional pieced quilts and prefers to use civil war or reproduction fabrics in her projects. You may've seen her designs in publications such as Fons and Porter's Love of Quilting or Primitive Quilts and Projects. When Devon designed Potion she wanted to create quilt that was a "study in value" made from scraps that would result in a "blendy" look when the blocks were arranged beside each other in the quilt.

Devon is featured in videos giving you insight into the design process by describing the choices she made while designing and making the Potion quilt:

  • Part 1 - Fabric Considerations (scrappy/blendy)
  • Part 2 - Block Selection
  • Part 3 - Block Arrangement
  • Part 4 - Border Choices and Fabric Selection

Kim Jamieson-Hirst

Kim Jamieson-Hirst is a quilt maker and teacher, using her YouTube videos to help educate and inspire quilters. She has published articles in Quilter's Connection Magazine, The Country Register and the Bustle & Sew ezine. Kim loves to work with batiks, quilting cottons and Japanese fabrics, usually to create bright projects. When Kim was making her version of the quilt she was looking for a more dramatic effect. She noticed that four Potion blocks could be combined to create a larger "star-like" block. She chose a colour way that highlighted the blocks and really made them pop.

Kim demonstrates how to make her version of the Potion quilt in videos in each of the four parts of the Potion Quilt Along:

  • Part 1 - Fabric Selection (controlled colour way); Half-Square Triangle (HST) technique
  • Part 2 - Partial Seam Technique; Block Construction
  • Part 3 - Blocks into Rows; Pressing Technique for the Rows
  • Part 4 - Border Construction; Quilting Motif Suggestions

Join the online Potion Quilt Along for the introductory price of $20.00 USD, which includes all of the videos, reference materials and special BONUS.

Everyone who purchases the Potion Quilt Along is invited to join the exclusive Quilt Along Alliance Facebook group.

Why should I join the Potion Quilt Along?

  • It's fun! Many people join quilts alongs because they like to participate with other quilters when making a quilt. We also provide access to a private Facebook group where you can interact with the teachers, designers, and other quilters.

  • Once you enrol in the Potion Quilt Along, the pattern, videos and reference materials are your to keep.
