More Prizes in the One World Quilt Along

Last week I was thrilled to announce that we would be awarding prizes for those members who have registered in the One World Quilt Along. This week I'm pleased to let you know that we have added another prize to these!

Curious.com is providing us with a one year's subscription to be awarded to one lucky Quilter. Curious.com is the website for lifelong learners and I teach several online classes there: Essential Guide to Fusible Web Appliqué, Hand Embroidery Essentials and The Joy of Vintage Sewing Machines. I'm not the only teacher on Curious.com: there are hundreds of teachers and thousands of lessons viewable on their website. There are many quilting and sewing courses, but you don't have to limit yourself to just those! You'll be able to watch lessons on baking, photography, exercise and computer applications. There are even courses on calculus, if you're so inclined (which I definitely am not, but don't let me influence you!).

This prize is for the early birds! Sign up for the One World Quilt Along as a Quilter before 11:59 pm EST on September 14, 2016 and you'll be eligible for this prize. Keith and I will do a random draw and one Quilter will win a year's subscription to Curious.com. You'll definitely find my courses on fusible web appliqué and hand embroidery helpful in making your version of the One World quilt.

Register now as a Quilter for the One World Quilt Along to be eligible or sit back and keep your fingers crossed if you are have already signed up as a Quilter.

Good luck!

Telecast Thursday - Hand Stitching on the Janome 8900

It's Telecast Thursday and I have a decorative machine stitch to show you that I think you'll really like.

I'm not a hand quilter: I love doing hand embroidery, but just can't get the hang of hand quilting, so I was really excited to discover that I can replicate the look of a hand stitch with my Janome 8900 sewing machine.

There are a few things you need to do to set your sewing machine up to do this hand stitch. Watch the video below or on my Youtube channel to learn all about creating this faux hand stitch.

Are you a hand quilter or does the idea of using a sewing machine to create this look for you appeal to you? Leave a comment below to let me know how you hand quilt.

Telecast Thursday - Circle Variations with the Handi Quilter Infinity

Welcome to another Telecast Thursday! This week I'm getting loopy on my HQ Infinity. I'll show you how to take simple circles and create more intricate loop designs with them. These are easy for even beginner quilters to accomplish and you can do them on your long-arm or domestic sewing machine.

You can watch the video below or on my Youtube channel to see how simple it is to create these designs.

Telecast Thursday - Piecing with Strips and Strings

Welcome to another Telecast Thursday. This week I'll show you how to use up some of your scraps while making an easy string block.

There are lots of ways you can use your completed blocks. Like a log cabin, string blocks can be combined in different orientations to create interesting effects.

As well as using up scrap fabric, I also recycle when creating my string blocks. Watch the video below or on my Youtube channel to see how I recycle and create at the same time.

Telecast Thursday - Real Quilting: The Learning Curve

It's Telecast Thursday and I'm addressing another "Real Quilting" topic.

I've been enjoying playing and learning on my Handi Quilter Infinity, but there is definitely a learning curve with this machine. As with most new sewing or quilting machines there are many different functions and it does take time to become completely familiar with all - or even some - of them. While it can seem overwhelming to use a new machine, it is essential that you spend the time to learn about it so you will use it. It's just this issue that I am addressing in the video below.

You can watch the video on my Youtube channel.

I hope I've inspired you to overcome your fears about learning to use a new machine or tool. Let me know how you handle this situation by leaving a comment below.
