Quilting

Telecast Thursday - Real Quilting: Quilt Shows

In this Telecast Thursday, I'm getting a bit serious.

If you know me, you know that I love going to quilt shows - who doesn't? I sometimes even get to look at the quilts on display, after blazing a trail through the vendors' booths, that is :)

I enjoy the social aspect of quilt shows as well as the shopping opportunities, but in this video I wanted to address my feelings about the quilts on display. You can watch the video below or on my YouTube channel.

Telecast Thursday - Book Review: 180 Doodle Quilting Designs

Happy Thursday!

After several months of inactivity, I've finally gotten back to some longarm quilting. My poor HQ Infinity had to oiled and cleaned up so I could finish a small quilt. I'm blaming this lack of quilting on summer - and the fact that I was immersed in preparing for the One World Quilt Along (you can sign up for this online quilt along at www.quiltfusion.com/one-world). Now with fall, it's back to stitching and what always makes me hesitate is choosing the "perfect" quilt motif. Of course there isn't a perfect quilt design for any quilt: it's a combination of your skill level and what you think would look good on the quilt.

I've recently been looking through 180 Doodle Quilting Designs compiled by Karen M. Burns for inspiration and there is lots of it in this book! For a look at what types of designs you can find in it, watch the video below or on my YouTube channel

I think this is a great reference book, no matter what your quilting skill level is. Simple or more complicated designs, you'll find lots of both varieties in 180 Doodle Quilting Designs.

Telecast Thursday - Strippy Scrappy Mug Rug

It's Telecast Thursday!

This week I'll show you how to make a strippy, scrappy mug rug that will use up some of your fabric scraps and batting. It's quick to do as it's constructed using a quilt as you go method. You can, of course, always add some additional quilting to it, but why bother? It's such a small project, that it really doesn't need anything more than maybe a few crystals. You can never have enough bling :)

Telecast Thursday - Book Review: Modern Roots

Welcome to Telecast Thursday.

This week I'm looking at Modern Roots: Today's Quilts from Yesterday's Inspiration: 12 Projects Inspired by Patchwork from 1840 to 1970 by Bill Volckening. This intriguing book shows you how to create modern projects based on antique quilts. I was amazed at how modern these quilts, some of them over 100 years old, looked.

Telecast Thursday - Colouring Appliqué

Welcome to a colourful Telecast Thursday! I've been having fun using QuiltFusion for appliqué designs, but have found another way to use this amazing program.

Do you like to colour? or color? Many adults have taken up this children's activity again since it is so relaxing. No thinking, just playing with colours - how fun is that?! I decided to try some colouring too, but rather than searching for colouring pages, I turned to appliqué patterns.

My favourite tool to create appliqué patterns is QuiltFusion. I looked through some of the designs I had created to find one that I thought would work well as a colouring project.

To see how I did coloured appliqué, watch the video below or on my YouTube channel.

This was so fun and quick to do and my daughter enjoyed this activity as well (she's not a quilter, but loves to colour).

If you're looking for a relaxing activity to try this fall, why not try colouring appliqué - no fabrics necessary.
