Zen Chic Inspired Book Review

Today I'm taking a look at Zen Chic Inspired by Brigitte Heitland. This book has a different way of approaching the creation of a quilt: make one that fits the decor of a specific room in your home. Clever, right? This totally makes sense to me.

Brigitte gives you information on how to determine the design, as well as the colour, of the quilt to match your room. The projects in Zen Chic Inspired are modern designs, not traditional pieced quilt blocks. There are both pieced and appliqué designs in this book, as well as lots of photos to illustrate the design principle of this book.

What Should You Pay for a Vintage Sewing Machine

I've created the Pricing Guide for Vintage Sewing Machines that will help you answer the question, “Is this a good price to pay for a vintage sewing machine?”. This PDF download is full of information to help you determine what price you should pay when you find your perfect machine(s). While I refer to SINGER® sewing machines in this FREE guide, this information is applicable to any brand of vintage sewing machine.

Simple Friendships Book Review

Do you like traditional pieced quilt designs with a touch of appliqué? If so, you will love Simple Friendships by Kim Diehl and Jo Morton.

The projects in this book are not large bed quilts, but rather smaller, but not small, wall hangings. These projects work well as block swaps and information on how to use them in that way are included in Simple Friendships.

In addition to the beautiful designs in the book there is information on wool appliqué, invisible machine appliqué (Kim Diehl's favourite method) and more.

Watch the book review video below or on my YouTube channel.

While the majority of these quilts use muted tones, Civil War reproduction type fabrics, they would just as lovely in more modern fabrics.

I liked the idea of using these projects for block swaps with friends or in a guild and appreciated the advice that was included in the book about doing so. The additional technique information at the back of the book was comprehensive and adds value to this book, in my opinion.

If you're a fan of Kim Diehl or Jo Morton, you will definitely want to add Simple Friendships to your quilt library.

Vintage Sewing Machines and the Multi-Purpose Quilt Spray

Vintage Sewing Machines and the Multi-Purpose Quilt Spray

We also use pins when basting our quilt sandwich together, although these are quilting pins and not straight pins. They can still pop open and cause damage or you might be trying to open one up as you are quilting along and accidentally catch it on the bed of the vintage sewing machine. There’s a way to avoid this type of damage to your machine when you are quilting: use the Multi-Purpose Quilt Spray, rather than quilting pins! Get rid of your quilting pins and use this spray to baste your quilt sandwich.
